IPv6 Fundamentals, Design and Deployment v2.0

The IPv6 Fundamentals, Design and Deployment (IP6FD) 2.0 course is a five-day course that combines the IPVSF v1.1 and IPVSD with no overlap. IP6FD v2.0 provides baseline through advanced technical information and training on the next-generation Internet protocol, IPv6. The goal of this course is to prepare the learner for transitioning to IPv6 based networks. IP6FD encompasses design considerations, security considerations, configuration principles, configuring Cisco IOS devices for IPv6 and IPv6 transition mechanisms. Throughout the course students will be presented the principles, concepts and practices for IPv6 deployment. This course will help network engineers understand, configure, and support Cisco devices running IOS software and covers the IPv6 routing protocols such as RIPng, OSPF, BGP, and IS-IS; IPv6 transition mechanisms including tunnels, ISATAP, NAT-PT, and 6to4; and other features. The design and deployment components present in depth coverage of IPv6 design and deployment for DNS, DHCP, integrating IPv6 in an IPv4 network, Multicast, and much more.

Upon finishing this course, you will be able to:
Describe the key differences between IPv4 and IPv6

  • Explain the structure of the IPv6 packet and how IPv6 is enabled in Cisco IOS software
  • Identify how IPv6 is supported in DNS and DHCP
  • Examine how the routing protocols have been modified to support IPv6
  • Define the changes to QoS with the introduction of IPv6
  • Describe how multicasting is supported by IPv6
  • Explain the IPv6 transition mechanism available for the integration of IPv6 into the network
  • Identify and illustrate IPv6 security threats and design practices
  • Understand the mobile IP model and the advancements made through Mobile IPv6
  • Examine the IPv6 multihoming issue and identify the current solutions under development in the IETF
  • Compare and contrast different methods for deploying IPv6 in both enterprise and service provider networks

The course is of utmost importance for network engineers responsible for IPv6 deployment.

The primary audience for this course comprises network designers and engineers involved in IPv6 network design and implementation. The secondary audience for this course includes network administrators as well as systems engineers responsible for operating and deploying IPv6 networks.
